Meet our Priest:  Reverend Sally Munroe

Since coming St Andrew's at the beginning of 2010, Reverend Sally has brought a special kind of love for our quirky little church in quirky little Manitou Springs. She instinctively seemed to understand how Manitou people “take care of their own” and started reaching out to the community right away with the Red Wagon program. This gave her an opportunity to not only help out needy people in a very real way, but also gave the community a chance to get to know her and she could get to know them. Under her guidance, we have changed the mission of the church to include “accepting all people as they are” and have opened wide the doors to the church. Rev. Sally prays each week for God to send all who need to hear about the love of Jesus and all who can help us do the work He has put before us.

Reverend Sally has revived the healing ministry of the church by teaching to completion a series on the Order of St. Luke, currently teaching classes on healing ministry based of the Francis and Judith McNutt series, and organized the church to host Jack and Ann Marie Scheffield for an incredible weekend workshop on healing in March, 2011. Unlike many Episcopal churches, Rev. Sally leads healing prayer every Sunday for members of the congregation before the Eucharist. Her personal kindness has helped many individuals in the community and led the community to call on St. Andrews to hold a funeral for long-time manager of Manitou Jack’s, Steve Anderson, when there was no immediate family to make those arrangements. She married a military couple who had no money free of charge when they wanted to take their vows just before the husband was to be deployed. Her skills in contract negotiation were responsible for saving the Golden Circle Senior lunch program for Manitou’s seniors. Finally, Rev. Sally has walked the path of grief with a family of the church who has endured so much tragedy this year that all of our hearts have broken and wept with them. She does the work of a full-time priest on a part-time salary because she knows this is all the church can afford right now. In a nutshell, Rev. Sally has genuinely loved this church, loved its members, and loved this community; and she has been teaching us all about how to love this same way. Those of us who have worked and stood by the revival of this church have known that God wasn’t going to allow us to move forward until we learned to love this way.

In December 2011, we were finally able to make Reverend Sally the official Rector of St. Andew's church.

Come worship the Lord with us, meet and get to know Rev. Sally and all of us at St. Andrew's, and let the love of the Lord touch you in a special way.

Saint Andrews is the oldest church in the Manitou Springs area. It is also one of the oldest and most beautiful Episcopal churches in Colorado.  It was established in 1870 with services held at the Briarhust Manor on  Manitou Avenue.  The present Chapel was built in 1905 in English Gothic style. The exterior is Ute Pass sandstone taken from a local quarry, and the roof was imported from England. The stained glass windows were executed in 1906 by Edward Hampton of London. There are three new windows in the back portion of the sanctuary that were designed by Mike Greer, a local artist.  Much of the interior of the church was donated by the Bell and Nichols families (1880-1906), founders of Manitou Springs.  The faces in the Presentation window above the altar are; Simeon - Bishop John Spalding, Mary - Cara Bell and Saint Anne - Anna Nichols.  The Church pipe organ was converted from a pump organ to electrical and installed in 1909. The original wooden church building that was built in June of 1880 for $1000 remains at 116 Canon Avenue and is used as a retail store.
