Events and News at St. Andrews

Serving our Lord with Love, Faith and Works

What a wonderful celebration!  Reverend Sally Munroe was installed as the official Rector of St. Andrew's at a special service on December 18th.  The Bishop's Canon, Lou Blanchard conducted the service with Deacon Frances Mutolo assisting.  Many of our friends from the Manitou Springs community as well as lots of friends from other Episcopal churches were in attendance to celebrate with us.  Thank you to all who attended and/or helped make this event special for Rev. Sally.

St. Andrew's Ministry Programs:

We had a wonderful response to the Operation Christmas Child Shoe Box program this year!  This was our 1st year with the program, and our small congregation picked all the boxes available at the alter and returned them full to forward on to children in need.  We had a total of 22 boxes as our contribution.

Our "After Thanksgiving" community meal was well attended by Manitou Springs.  Those volunteering stopped counting after they passed the 100th person served.  In addition to serving in the fellowship hall, Rev. Sally and Rev. Frances took around meals to the local merchants who were busy with "Small Business Saturday" sales events.  Our local merchants give so much food to the Red Wagon program each week that Sally and Frances felt they needed to be fed as a thank you for all they do for the community.

The congregation again participated in the Thanksgiving Baskets through Westside Cares. Our contribution this year for the baskets was a "spiritual gift".   Rev. Frances found some beautiful small wooden crosses and Ann Foster made them into necklaces with decorative cord.

The congregation selected 4 families to sponsor for our Christmas project.  All the gifts are collected and the food assembled for delivery.  We will be getting these deliveries made this week.  Thank you to all who participated in making Christmas possible for these needy families.

St. Andrews Golden Circle Senior Lunch Program is held daily Monday thru Friday at 11:45 AM. in the fellowship hall (downstairs). For Information Contact Joanne at 719-685-9259.

The Little RED Wagon and Oliver/BeBe will be on the streets of Manitou Springs each Thursday afternoon to collect non-parishable food for the needy. Oliver will collect your cash donations.  You may also drop food donations at the church Monday through Thursday 10 am to 2 pm

The Historical Site Analysis is nearly done!  St. Andrew's was given a grant through the State Historical Society to complete a Site Analysis of the church's historical renovation needs.  Tim Stroh with the Preservation Studio is our architech who will be coordinating the work and is nearly done with the 1st draft.  During this phase of the grant, a list of renovation needs will be made with approximate costs for the work.  High on the church's list of priorities is restoring and protecting the priceless stained glass windows, fixing the heating system, and establishing proper drainage around to perimeter of the building.  No actual work will be completed during this phase, and this assessment grant did not require any matching funds from the church.  With the Assessment nearly done, we should be able to submit a request for funds early next year to start the actual work.  In order to submit our request, we must have the required 25% matching funds in hand before the Historical Society will consider our request.  St. Andrew's has set up an account, separate from the church bank account, to start collecting our matching funds monies.  If you would like to be a part of the renovation of this historic treasure of Manitou Springs, contact the church office at 719-685-9259 to find out how to make a tax-deductible donation!
